A Medieval city
The Medieval city of Salisbury is home to Salisbury Cathedral and also our little pizza shop, nole on the square. The 13th century cathedral sits amongst 80 acres of stunning grounds and has one of Europe’s tallest spires. The surrounding gardens are a nice place to sit and relax, too.

An unsuspecting 13th Century tithe barn, in fact the largest in the country, is home to this multi-purpose gallery and arts centre. Wander through the exhibitions before relaxing at the Messums Coffeehouse or a spot of lunch at The Mess.

You can enjoy an amble through the house, around the 21 acres of landscaped grounds, or a play in the adventure playground. You may recognise some of the backdrops from period drama series such as The Crown or Bridgerton.

To give you a kick-start in exploring, we recommend the Broad Chalke and Fifield Downs circular route. Explore the rolling chalk downs within Cranborne Chase AONB, with plenty of nature and glorious views along the way. With its thatched cottages, steep green hills, chalk streams and watercress beds it’s easy to see how Broad Chalke made the Sunday Times’ best places to live list 2023. Perhaps this is why, for such as small village, it’s had a surprising number of famous residents such as the author Sir Terry Pratchett, former Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden, photographer Sir Cecil Beaton and musician Toyah Willcox.
